Happy Holidays from D!

It's Christmas!!!
and the best part: the dessert!!!

Who doesn't love a decadent Buche de Noel? It's one of my personal favorites. You have a lot of variations of this famous yule log but the classic chocolate genoise with  chocolate whipped cream will always have a special place in my heart <3 .

I'll admit, the rolling part of the cake took me some time (and several cakes!) to master, but the result definilty worth the trouble.

Other than that, the cake is pretty straightforward to make. Just bake your favorite genoise sheet cake , spread some chocolate whipped cream and roll!

Some green and red fondant holly will look great on top. But maybe next year I'll try baking some meringue mushrooms.

Happy Holidays Everyone!! May the coming year bring us even sweeter things...

Chocolate Chiffon Cake with Pink Rosewater Frosting

It's been a while I haven't baked and was starting to miss it.

And i was in the mood for a sugary rich chocolate treat. I opened up mu favorite cake blog (sweetapolita) and found this recipe for a dark chocolate chiffon cake with pink rosewater vanilla frosting.

The cake itself is as light and moust as can be! The meringue in it really gave it height and texture.

I was slightly afraid of it rising but the result was amazing!!

After cooling (this was torture!!), i slathered on a HUGE amount of pink frosting and dug in!!

They barely let me even take pictures!!!

Deezert is one! My First Blogoversary: Celebrating with Lemon Cake

I can't believe it's already been a year since I started blogging. I remembered how reluctant I was at first..how hard it all looked! All that code and what not..

But soon enough, I got the hang of it and I fell in love with blogging and regretted that I haven't started one long before.

It's really amazing if you think about, I've been my stats for a while now and I have people from all around the world that read this blog: Germany, UK, India, Canada, Australia, Jordan, Algeria...really all over the place...
This just baffles me!!

And don't worry, there will be cake in this post. Did you really think Deezert's birthday will pass without any cake?!!!!!!

I opted for simple (yet not so simple to make) lemon cake.

The vanilla cake was 4 layers of angel food cake, so all egg whites and no yolks!

YUM, white vanilla fluffy cake.

I could eat this cake all by itself but the lemons looked so beautiful I had to use them in some way.

I made a delicious thick lemon curd using sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest and a whole bunch of eggs.

I stacked the cake and the lemon curd and covered the whole thing with sweet white marshmallow fondant (again, Deezert's birthday has to have marshmallow fondant somewhere in it!).

Me, making the flower =)

I ruffled long strips of fondant and layered them on top of the cake and added a 5 petal flower on top.

Isn't this a refreshing way to start another year of full Deezerts??

Happy First Birthday Deezert

Rose Battenburg Cake

Tomorrow is my parent's 23rd anniversary. They've been together 23 wonderful years! (20 of which were awesome, I'm guessing :P !)

Well, yes: you guessed it: I baked a cake! =D

I wanted to do something romantic but fun at the same time, so I finally decided on this new type of cake I came across while reading one of my favorite blogs : Sprinklebakes
It's called: Battenburg, basically it's a looong sponge cake that when cut would show a yummy two-by-two check pattern of 2 colors.

Halloween Cakes

Halloween is finally here! No, I wasn't satisfied with only doing the Halloween Dead Fingers (if you haven't seen them, click here)

Here are some cakes I did for my sister's Halloween Party at school! Not with fondant this time but I had so much fun doing them.

Here's the Frankenstein Cake, supposed to be scary, but turned out cute!! I still loved it =D

Cheesecake

Cheesecake, need I say more?

Ok, here's the story: I've always LOVED cheesecake and I've always wanted to make one. But I never really liked the box-store ones. And I've heard that to make a real big cheesecake from scratch is hard. As most of you know, I love such challenges =D

SO! I cleared my schedule for a day and began the journey. Let me tell you, I loved it!

I had to research A LOT to figure how to make a perfect, not-too-cheesy, not-too-creamy, level luscious cheesecake.

It took me 2 days to finish (well, most of that time is the chilling/baking time) I had to bake it for hours! and chill it overnight.

The end result: Everyone loved it! It was gone in 30 minutes.

What do you think?

Has anyone ever tried making a cheesecake before?

Chocolate Truffle Cake

My most recent baking journey!

A three layer melt-in-your-mouth cake -
The first layer is made up of baked crispy biscuits.
The second, of heavenly light sponge chocolate cake. And the last - but definitely not least - layer is made up of luscious chocolate truffle mousse.

Now imagine all those layers on top of each other with a sprinkle of bittersweet cocoa powder on top.

Hope you like it!
