Lady in Purple

A simply purple lemon cake for a lady who loves pearls.

I really enjoyed making this cake. All of my order have been about sports and guy stuff lately. It was a nice change doing this extremely feminine cake. And I finally got to use those pretty cake mats! :D

I simply love it when I have my cake frosted and covered with white fondant. Looks like am empty canvas just waiting for someone to splash it with color, don't you think?

Et Voila!

I also had to add a ribbon somewhere, the frilly ribbon just fit right into the theme?

Now all this cake needs is a BIG purple hat to go with it.

What do you think?

Chocolate Chiffon Cake with Pink Rosewater Frosting

It's been a while I haven't baked and was starting to miss it.

And i was in the mood for a sugary rich chocolate treat. I opened up mu favorite cake blog (sweetapolita) and found this recipe for a dark chocolate chiffon cake with pink rosewater vanilla frosting.

The cake itself is as light and moust as can be! The meringue in it really gave it height and texture.

I was slightly afraid of it rising but the result was amazing!!

After cooling (this was torture!!), i slathered on a HUGE amount of pink frosting and dug in!!

They barely let me even take pictures!!!

Sushi Roll Cake

It's been done! My first sushi cake. well..sushi roll cake. And surprisingly it was pretty easy! and really fun to do. The pieces all fit together perfectly.

 Let's talk cake.

The cake itself is a vanilla-lemon cake. In other words, fluffy vanilla cake with lemon curd filling and white vanilla frosting.

and as usual: Marshmallow Fondant!!

I made a dark (black-ish) fondant strip and wrapped it around the cake and sprinkled white sprinkles on top for the "rice".

I dug through many leftover fondant pieces from previous cakes...turns out I have many many colors left (makes life muuuuuch easier) and added all the colors to the sushi roll.

Finally, a sushi cake cannot exist without some chopsticks, so I stacked 2 on top.

The wasabi

The ginger

I just love the pink of the ginger...don't you think it looks good??

Yummy...I think I'll be going out for sushi tonight...

Monster Cookie Layer Cake

I've seen this cake many many times and always thought about recreating it but was intimidated by the "fur". However, I will never say no to a request! (Especially a Sesame Street Cake!)

The cake itself was also a challenge. Two layers of moist vanilla cake: a white white and pink-tinted one. One layer of red-velvet cake and last but (definetly) not least chocolate cake.
(Ah, if only I can have a piece right now!!!)

Then it was time for FROSTING!

I wanted something that tastes really good but can also last and not melt and mess up my pretty cake.
My final decision was laid upon Sweetapolita's Swiss Meringue Buttercream.
It looks silky smooth and tastes delicious. It's starting to become my go-to frosting.

I made a LARGE amount of buttercream. I chilled my cakes and stacked them one on top the other and cumb coated the whole thing.

Then I got out my piping tools. I searched and searched and finally found the perfect tip: Wilton Grass Tip 233.

2 cups of butter cream later...I was confident enough to try frosting my cake.

3 hours later (and an almost broken wrist =O )....I WAS DONE.

I then added white buttercream eyes and chopped off my cookies in half (and I totally did not eat the broken ones =) ) and stuck them on his mouth.

Here's the cake on the inside =D

and voila!

Homer Simpson sure loves doughnuts!

This week has been FULL of events! I really can't remember the last time I've that much events (official ones) back to back! SO it's been CRAZY! but AWESOME!

Today is actually my dad's birthday (and mine was yesterday =D, just so you know!) and tomorrow's Father's Say so there was no way this week was going to pass without any Dee-licious cake!

After LOTS of thinking (and the fact that I know my dad looooves The Simpson's), I finally set my mind on this very cute doughnut shaped cake with Homer Simpson lying on top of it.

This is by far the "figurine" I'm most proud of. I loved making it. I looked up lots of picture of Homer and memorized every little detail and tried to to copy him as much as possible.

I think he turned out pretty good, right?!

View from the top

Anyway the inside of the doughnut/cake is fudgy super moist chocolate covered with white vanilla frosting and beige marshmallow fondant.

I then cut out the blue "frosting" and places it on top of the doughnut and covered it with sprinkles. Then came Homer with his Duff Beers =D

The Last Perfect Man!

What do you think?
Don't you just love the Simpsons?!!!

From D to all dads all over the world:

Happy Father's Day

and Dad I love you! Happy Birthday =D

Me and my dad =D

Colors and Cupcakes

I had a craving for cupcakes this afternoon...with lots and lots of frosting!!
So I closed my books and went into the kitchen.
Unfortunately I did not have any cupcake papers =( and it was too cold to get out of the house and get them. So I tried to make do without them. I baked them as I bake my cakes, with some butter and flour-ing the pan.

I used Martha Stewart's Polka Dot Cupcakes recipe with a few twinks here and there. And I made some classic oh-so-sweet frosting (recipe below), colored it with the beautiful Wilton colors I have (yay!) and had fun decorating them.

This is my first try at cupcake decorating, I usually just frost them. They turned out OK I think.
And as they say: practice makes perfect. I'll keep on practicing until I make the perfect frosted cupcake!

Here's how they turned out.

Frosting - as easy as can be:

What you need:

  • 200 g butter, at room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbs. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla essence
  • Few drops of food coloring (optional)

Tools you need:
  • Bowl
  • Hand Mixer (Your hand with a spatula will do, but you'll need some muscles :P)
  • Spatula

What to do:

  1. Cream the butter for about 3 min. using the mixer. The butter will become soft and pale.
  2. Add the sugar gradually and mix until incorporated.
  3. Add the milk and the vanilla and mix well.
  4. In order to color your frosting, add a few drops of food coloring and mix till the color is mixed entirely with the frosting.
Tip: In order to have a smooth frosting texture, use the spatula to move all bubbles inside the mixture. Just mix and cream the frosting until it's all smooth and YUMMY!! =D

Happy Cupcake-ing!

Halloween Cakes

Halloween is finally here! No, I wasn't satisfied with only doing the Halloween Dead Fingers (if you haven't seen them, click here)

Here are some cakes I did for my sister's Halloween Party at school! Not with fondant this time but I had so much fun doing them.

Here's the Frankenstein Cake, supposed to be scary, but turned out cute!! I still loved it =D
